Field Maintenance Services

We provide a wide range of field maintenance services throughout Nottinghamshire including Pasture topping, chain harrowing and rolling & hedge cutting.

All our services are designed to keep your field or pasture in top condition, stimulating grass growth and keeping fields safe for livestock.

Our experienced agricultural contractors provide highly professional maintenance services for pastures, field, grass and paddocks large and small.

Pasture Topping

An essential part of managing grassland. Reducing the cut grass to small pieces allows the breakdown to occur more quickly which feeds the soil and allows you to bring grazing animals back sooner.

Field topping makes the grass more productive by crushing the grass crowns and encouraging the grass to tiller, it also helps to reduce weeds such as bracken, docks, thistles, nettles and ragwort by stopping them going to seed.

Using flail mowers with integrated shredders creates mulch which rots down quickly and helps revitalise the soil.

If a neat finish is required for a field that is not used by livestock we can use our finishing mowers to give the grass a beautiful look.

Chain Harrowing & Rolling

Harrowing removes dead grass, lightly rooted weeds and moss to encourage the grass to spread and become more established in the field. It also helps to level any rough ground in the field, along fence lines or hedgerows and livestock feeding areas making the ground safer.

Spreading and breaking up manure the harrowing spreads nutrients more evenly through the soil. It is best to do harrowing in Spring and sometimes in Autumn if needed.

Rolling the field or paddock firms up light soil to help reduce damage by animal hooves and levels out any poached or uneven ground.

Like with field topping the grass crowns are compressed which helps to encourage the grass to tiller and spread. This creates a thicker sward which helps prevent weeds from appearing. Rolling is usually done after harrowing to help push any stones back into the field.

Hedge Cutting

Hedge cutting around field boundaries is best performed at the end of the growing season between September and late January.

Using sidearm flail mowers mounted to our tractor we can carry our hedge cutting on well kept, high or out of control hedges.

Regular hedge cutting around fields and paddocks thickens the hedge creating a neat look which is also an excellent habitat for wildlife. It is also more cost affective to have a regular hedge cut as they take less time than a large or out of control hedgerow.
